What are your safety and health rights and responsibilities in the workplace?

 

If you’re under 25,chances are greater that you’ll be hurt.

When it comes to safety and health, every worker in Manitoba, regardless of age, has three basic rights in the workplace.

They are:

The right to know – about what hazards there are in the workplace and what precautions must be taken to prevent injuries from these hazards.

The right to participate – in safety and health activities in the workplace without fear of any form of discriminatory action such as discipline.

The right to refuse – work that you reasonably believe can be dangerous to yourself or others.

 

What should you ask your supervisor before staring work?  10 Questions to ask an Employer

1. What are the hazards of the job?

2. What are the company's safety and health rules?

3. When will I receive training in job safety and the workplace hazardous manterials information system (WHMIS)?

4. Is there a safety and health committee or a worker representative? Where is the safety and halth bullein board located?

5. Do I need to wear safety gear and when will I be shown how to use it?

6. When will I be trained in emergency procedures?

7. Where is emergency equipment located?

8.What do I do if I get hurt? Where is the first aid person? Is this workplace covered by Workers' Compensation?

9. Who do I asak if I have a health or safety question?
